To understand how to apply percentage, take the percentage as a number and multiply its original number by one percent / 100. For the first point, if the initial price was x, then decreased 5 percent, the reduction would be 5 / 100 X. The new price is x – reduction, ox – 5 / 100 x = 15.20. X 95/100 = 15.20 x = 15.20 * (100/95) = £ 16.00 for the second problem, the initial price is the increase prices are 40/100, 40/100, and therefore y + Y = 112 140/100 = 112 y = 112 * (100/140) y = £ 80.00
